The St. George River Saltwater Challenge Canoe and Kayak Race will be Sunday May 23, at 4 p.m. in Thomaston. Registration begins at 3 p.m. at the Thomaston town landing.

The race date has been changed from Saturday, May 22 to Sunday, May 23 due to a death in the paddling community, said Paula Lunt of Tenants Harbor, one of the event’s organizers.

The flatwater race will start at the public landing, head up the St. George River and finish back at the landing. There is a five-mile beginner course and a 10-mile competition course.

There will be a prize of live lobsters to the fastest boat in the 10-mile race.

Registration for the race is by donation and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the American Lung Association in Maine.

The canoe/kayak race is open to paddlers of all ages.
