Royce L. Shuman Jr., 83, died at the Knox Center for Long Term Care on April 25, 2010, with family by his side.

Born in South Weymouth, Mass., on Nov. 14, 1926, he was the son of Royce L. Sr. and Vivian N. Steele Schumann.

In 1951, he met the woman who would be his wife for the next 58 years, Marilyn Mayo. On their third date, Roy proposed. They married Aug. 29, 1952, in Danvers, Mass. Together they had three sons, Paul Craig Schumann, Keith Mayo Schumann and Robert Peter Schumann.

Roy was an avid hunter, fisherman and master fly tier. In 1979, he and Marilyn moved to Warren, where he lived for the next 20-plus years. He established his own business called The Mountain Trading Post, where he built his own fishing poles and tied his own flies. After moving to this area, he shortened his name to Shuman.

He most recently resided at the Knox Center for Long Term Care where he received excellent care and was adored by the staff.

Besides his wife of 58 years, Marilyn of Warren, Roy is survived by his three sons; six grandchildren, Mary Schumann McNally of Sunapee, N.H., Robert Peter Schumann Jr. of New York, Kristine Schumann Natale of Waldoboro, Kristopher Paul Schumann of Warren, Jennifer Rae Schumann of Warren and Trisha Lee Schumann of Rockland; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at the German Cemetery in Waldoboro at a later date.
