After a May 18 vote to create the role of official town historian, the Camden Select Board presented 86-year-old Barbara Dyer with a certificate on May 19 naming her the first to hold that position. Select Board member Morgan Laidlaw visited Dyer on the morning of May 19 to wish her a happy birthday and present her with a bouquet of lupines and early peonies and a framed proclamation that reads as follows:

“In recognition of a lifetime of dedication to preserving Camden’s history, on behalf of the citizens of Camden, Maine, the Camden Select Board hereby proclaims Barbara Dyer as Official Town Historian.”

“At 86 years old, I’ve finally made it,” Dyer said.
