About 45 town employees accepted an invitation from the Camden Select Board to attend a breakfast May 14 at the Snow Bowl. The event was the town’s first Employee Appreciation Breakfast, sponsored by the board at its own expense.

Select Board Chairwoman Karen Grove said May 18 that the board invited everybody who works for the town, as well as the volunteer firefighters.

“We did it early in the morning, at a time when the highway people would have their break,” Grove said. “We tried to schedule it in a way that didn’t interrupt town services.” She said some workers’ schedules, and the distances they had to travel from home, kept them from attending.

Grove said most of those who turned out for the meal were members of the highway and volunteer fire departments, and town office and opera house staff. About 70 servings of sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, French toast, Danish pastry, home fries, coffee, juice and fresh fruit were prepared and packages of leftovers went home with some of the town workers.

Grove acknowledged the assistance given by Todd and Sarah Anderson and Mike Fisher of French & Brawn Marketplace, who helped the board procure supplies at cost and staffed the Snow Bowl kitchen during the event.

“They did the heavy lifting,” Grove said. “We served.” She said Select Board members also spent about an hour cutting up fresh fruit before their guests arrived.

“It was a great feeling among everybody there,” Grove said. “Even though these are all people who work for the town these are people who don’t get together and see each other.”
