The Camden Adult Coed Softball League, which has provided summertime fun for adult men and women for decades, appears to be gearing up for another season, albeit under different leadership.

Reade Brower of Camden, coach of the Free Press Red Wings, will coordinate the league this summer.

Joseph Cyr of Misfits and Todd Anderson of French & Brawn have been the driving forces behind the league in recent years, but it appears both of them will not officially be involved with the league this summer.

Thus, Brower is taking over directing the league and said the plan is to have it remain “status-quo.” In the past, games were played June through August on fields at the Camden Snow Bowl, the former Rockport Elementary School and Mary E. Taylor School in Camden.

While Cyr, who was the player/coach of the Misfits for years, has moved from the area and does not expect to compete with the team this summer, that squad, with many of the same players, expects to return to try to defend a league title it has won six straight years.

Anderson is the longtime player/coach of French & Brawn. It is unclear, at this point, if Anderson plans to play and/or sponsor a team this year.

Brower said more concrete information on this summer’s edition of the coed league will be coming soon.

Last year, there were nine teams in the league, all of which played a 10-game regular-season schedule. The teams included Misfits, Benchwarmers, Maine Cat, Lord Camden Inn, The Layoffs, Redwings, French & Brawn, Legal Eagles and Strange Brew.
