The Central Lincoln County YMCA gymnastics team, under the direction of coach Janice Cormier-Hay and Betsy Lee, competed at the YMCA Maine State Gymnastics meet April 24-25.

The squad competed against all nine of the YMCA gymnastics teams from Maine, including host Bath YMCA. Also participating were Bangor, Lewiston-Auburn, Down East YMCA of Ellsworth, Oxford Hills, Greater Rumford, Old Town Orono and Waterville.

The CLC team had many outstanding performances and “showed great focus, skill, strength, sportsmanship and beauty,” said coach Cormier-Hay, as they executed their vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise routines.

Coach Cormier-Hay said she was proud of her team. The CLC Level 4 team placed third in the state, while the Level 5 team placed third and the Advance Prep Op second.

CLC has two all-around Maine state champions in Meghan Gallagher, Level 5 of Camden, and Whitney Dow, Level 4 of Waldoboro.

Individual highlights of accomplishment: Kristen Cavanaugh, Advanced prep op is state champion in vault; the senior member of the team and headed to University of Maine in Orono is Kiley Bickford, at Advanced pre op, is state champion on the beam; Gallagher, Level 5, is state champion in the bars, beam and floor; Emma Downing, Level 4 is state champion on the floor; Madeline York, Level 4, is state champion on the vault; and Dow, Level 4 is state champion in the bars, beam and floor.

Advanced Pre-Op ages 14-15 — Cavanaugh finished 8.4 on vault (1st), 7.9 on uneven parallel bars (3rd), 6.9 on beam (2nd), 6.9 on floor and second all-around.

Advanced Pre-Op ages 16-18 — Bickford finished 8.2 on vault (2nd), 7.4 on bars (2nd), 7.4 on bars (2nd), 9.0 on beam (1st), 8.4 on floor and second all-around. This competition completes a nine-year career on Cormier-Hay’s team for Bickford.

Level 5 age 10 — Gallagher finished 8.4 on vault (2nd), 8.55 on bars (1st), 9.35 on beam (1st), 9.4 on floor (1st) and first all-around.

Marta Denny finished 8.25 on vault (5th), 7.25 on bars (3rd), 9.125 on beam (2nd), 8.95 on floor (3rd) and second all-around.

Level 5 ages 11 — Catherine Roy finished 8.2 on vault (6th), 7.4 on bars, (5th), 8.725 on beam (3rd), 9.05 on floor (1st) and fifth all-around.

Level 5 ages 12-14 — Kate Kelley finished 8.1 on vault (9th), tenth on bars, 8.0 on beam (7th), 8.5 on floor (6th) and 11th all-around.

At Level 4 ages 6-7 — Emily Kelsey finished 8.775 on vault (4th), 6.9 on bars (6th), 8.05 on beam (6th), 6.65 on floor (6th) and ninth all-around.

Level 4 age 8 — Downing finished 8.95 on vault (4th), 7.9 on bars (10th), 9.325 on beam (2nd), 9.225 on floor (1st) and fourth all-around.

Macallister Moss finished 9.1 on vault (3rd), 8.3 on bars (7th), 8.85 on beam (7th), 9.125 on floor (3rd) and fifth all-around.  

Emma Hall finished 8.85 on vault (7th), 8.6 on bars (5th), 9.3 on beam (3rd), 8.6 on floor (10th) and fifth all-around.

Kelsey, Moss and Hall finished just .025 between each all-around score.

Level ages 9 and older — Kathryn Colomb finished 8.55 on vault (8th), 8.15 on bars (4th), 8.25 on beam (6th), 8.925 on floor (3rd) and third all-around.

Level ages 9 and younger — Madeline York finished 9.0 on vault (1st), 8.45 on bars (3rd), 8.65 on beam (5th), 8.675 on floor (7th) and fourth all-around.

Alison York finished 8.8 on vault (6th), 8.05 on bars (7th), 8.5 on beam (6th), 8.95 on floor (4th) and fifth all-around.

Level 4 ages 10-13 — Dow finished 8.9 on vault (2nd), 8.7 on bars (1st), 9.1 on beam (1st), 8.775 on floor (1st) and first all-around.

Kylie Farnham finished 8.7 on vault (5th), 8.375 on bars (5th), 8.25 on beam (6th), 8.675 on floor (4th) and third all-around which qualifies for the New England regional meet in Mancester, N.H.

The final meet of the season will be May 15-16 at the regional, where where 40 YMCA gymnastics teams will compete from seven states (Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts).

On April 11, the CLC YMCA gymnastics team competed against teams from Penobscot Valley Gymnastics in Bangor, Old Town Gymnastics and Oxford Hills. It was the CLC team’s final regular-season meet as 12 of 15 competing CLC gymnasts hit their all-time personal best scores.

The individual results for the local competitors were:

Advanced Pre-Op Ages 14-17 — Cavanaugh finished 8.45 on vault (1st), 8.5 on bars (1st), 7.5 on beam (2nd),  8.3 on floor (2nd) and first all-around with a personal best score qualifying her for the New England Regional meet.

Bickford finished 7.8 on vault (2nd), 8.3 on bars, 7.7 on beam (1st), 8.8 on floor (1st) with a season’s best score that qualifies her for the New England Regional meet.

Level 5 age 10 — Denny finished 8.55 on vault (3rd), 6.9 on bars, 8.7 on beam (1st), 8.1 on floor (4th) and fifth all-around.

Level 5 age 11 — Roy finished 8.0 on vault (3rd), 9.0 on bars (2nd), 8.7 on beam (1st), 8.7 on floor (1st) and first all-around with a score that is her season’s best and which qualifies her for the New England Regional meet.

Level 5 age 12-14 — Kelley finished 8.4 on vault (3rd), 5.1 on  bars (6th), 7.2 on beam, 8.6 on floor (3rd) and second all-around.

At Level 4 age 6-7 — Emily Kelsey finished 9.15 on vault (1st), 6.7 on bars (7th), 7.15 on beam (3rd), 6.75 on floor and sixth all around with a score that is her personal best.

Madison Bradbury finished 8.4 on vault (4th), 5.6 on bars (9th),  5.6 on beam (9th), 7.15 on floor (5th) and eighth all-around with her personal best score for the season.

Level 4 age 8 — Moss finished 9.6 on vault (1st), 8.75 on bars (4th), 9.1 on beam (3rd), 9.05 on floor (4th) and second overall with a personal best score that qualifies her for the New England Regional meet.

Downing finished 9.3 on vault (3rd), 8.8 on bars (3rd), 9.2 on beam (2nd), 9.15 on floor (3rd) and third overall with a personal best score that qualifies her for the New England Regional meet.

Hall finished 8.9 on vault (4th), 8.9 on bars (2nd), 9.0 on beam (4th), 8.85 on floor (5th) and fourth overall with a score that was her personal best and which qualifies her for the New England Regional meet.

Level age 9 and younger — Alison York finished 9.35 on vault (1st), 8.1 on bars (5th), 8.35 on beam (5th), 8.8 on floor (4th) and fourth overall with a seasons best score that qualifies her for the New England Regionals.

May Ham finished 8.35 on vault, 8.65 on bars (2nd), 7.6 on beam (6th), 8.35 on floor (6th) and sixth overall with a score that is her personal best for the season.

Level age 9 and older — Kathryn Colomb finished 8.75 on vault (4th), 8.3 on bars (4th), 8.5 on beam (6th), 9.05 on floor (2nd) and fourth all-around with a score that qualifies her for the New England Regional meet.

Level 4 age 11 and 12 — Dow finished 8.8 on vault (4th), 8.4 on bars (2nd), 9..05 on beam (1st), 8.9 on floor (2nd) and first all-around with a score that is her personal best and that qualifies her for the New England Regional meet.

Farnham finished 8.1 on vault (6th), 8.35 on bars (3rd), 8.95 on beam (2nd), 9.05 on floor (1st) and second all-around with a personal best score and which qualifies her for the New England Regional meet.
