The Friends of the Thomaston Public Library continues its series of films in Room 208 of the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1. The weekly films are hosted by movie maven Erika Pfander.

The Friday night movies for May are dubbed Forgotten Gems. There is no film May 14, due to an open house. The next film of the series will be “The Trip to Bountiful” May 21 at 6:30 p.m.

A richly textured tale of an elderly woman’s journey home, this 1985 film stars Geraldine Page in the performance of a lifetime that won her an Academy Award. Page plays Carrie Watts, an elderly woman with a weak heart but of strong determination. Trapped in a tiny apartment under the care of her cowardly son and his shrewish wife, Carrie is determined to escape and return to her girlhood home to make peace with her past.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the Hallway Books bookshop will be open in the hallway of the first floor. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. All screenings begin 6:30 p.m.

The Academy building is handicapped accessible via the elevator off the parking lot. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
