The Rockport Select Board will meet Monday, May 10 to discuss an agenda that includes the possible abandonment of Old Town Road and a public hearing on a Community Development Block Grant application in the amount of $160,000 on behalf of Avena Botanicals.

According to the Select Board agenda for May 10, Old Town Road, which runs between Mt. Pleasant Road and South Hope Road, has not been kept passable for the use of motor vehicles at the expense of the municipality or county for a period of 30 or more consecutive years and as a result has been abandoned as such term is used in 23 M.R.S.A. Section 3028.

Town Manager Robert Peabody’s notes for the upcoming meeting state: “The 1955 Town Report lists the streets of Rockport as designated by the selectmen in accordance with a vote of the town passed March 21, 1892; the road does not appear on the list. The 1956 Town Report contained a revised list; the road does not appear on the list.”

If approved at the May 10 public hearing, a special town meeting will be held Monday, May 24 for voters to consider a Community Development Block Grant for Avena Botanicals.
