The state Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting to discuss a project to build median islands on Route 1 on Monday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the Waldoboro Town Office.

According to the DOT, the scope of the project is to enhance functionality and improve safety of the intersection of Route 1 with Depot and Jefferson streets by widening Route 1 at the intersection and installing both raised and flush median islands, exclusive left turn lanes for both approaches of Route 1, and a crosswalk across Route 1.

The project begins approximately 480 feet west of the existing Route 1 and Depot/Jefferson streets intersection and extends easterly to approximately 630 feet beyond the intersection. The project will also extend approximately 100 feet northerly on Depot Street. The project is an Operational and Safety Improvement Project.

Representatives of the DOT will attend the public meeting to listen to concerns, receive comments and answer questions from anyone with an interest in the project.

The department said it is particularly interested in learning local views relative to project consistency with local comprehensive plans, discovering local resources, and identifying local concerns and issues. Anyone with an interest is invited to attend and participate in the meeting.
