An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls from April 25 to May 1.

April 25

Deputy Robert Potter began an investigation of a theft in Washington. This is still an active investigation with no suspects or leads.

Deputy John Palmer began an investigation of a theft in Warren. The suspect was contacted and the property was returned. No charges were sought.

Deputy Potter responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Union involving a single vehicle striking a turkey. There was nonreportable damage sustained.

April 26

Deputy Palmer responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Union involving a single vehicle whose operator lost control after spilling her drink, subsequently striking a ditch. There was nonreportable damage sustained.

Deputy Larry Hesseltine began an investigation of criminal mischief on Vinalhaven. The suspect in this case was located and issued a summons.

Deputy Palmer responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Hope involving a single vehicle striking a deer. There was nonreportable damage sustained.

Deputy Palmer began an investigation of trespassing in Hope. The male trespasser was issued a warning and must have a police escort to return and retrieve what’s left of his belongings.

April 27

Deputies Matt Elwell, Steven Grasso and Sgt. Mark Tibbetts responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving three vehicles with reported injuries. Two operators complained of pain in their shoulders and backs and were evaluated by Warren Rescue but declined transport. Reportable damage was sustained by the vehicles.

Detective Dwight Burtis, Sgt. Tibbetts and Sheriff Donna Dennison responded to a report of a domestic incident in Washington. Randal Goneau, 26, of Washington was arrested on a charge of domestic violence assault.

Deputies Elwell and Grasso responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Cushing. This incident involved one operator having to swerve to avoid an oncoming vehicle that had crossed the center line, causing him to lose control and end up in the trees. There was reportable damage sustained.

Deputy Palmer responded to a report of an erratic vehicle in Rockport. The vehicle was located and stopped. This incident was turned over to Rockport Police Department Officer Butler, upon his arrival.

April 28

Deputy Potter responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle whose operator attempted to miss a tire that came off the vehicle in front of her but was unable to avoid striking it. The other operator was not located. There was nonreportable damage sustained.

Detective Dwight Burtis began an investigation of a domestic incident that was originally reported to the Waldoboro Police Department but was found to have occurred in Warren. Karrie Prior, 19, of Friendship was arrested on charges of violating a condition of release and domestic violence assault. Seth Simmons, 26, of Friendship was also charged with assault. Both subjects were transported to the Knox County Jail.

April 29

Deputy David Johnson responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Union involving two vehicles, one of which backed into the other. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

Deputies Elwell and Nathan Jack responded to a report of trespassing in Warren. The male trespasser was located and issued a written notice.

April 30

Deputy Palmer began an investigation of a burglary in Union. This is still an active investigation with one suspect who has been located and evidence has been obtained for further processing. No charges had been placed as of this date.

Deputy Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving two vehicles, one of which rear ended the other. Reportable damage was sustained.

Deputies Elwell and Jack responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving a single vehicle whose operator lost control after his puppy jumped in his lap, causing him to run into a tree. Reportable damage was sustained with no personal injuries noted.

Deputy Don Murray began an investigation of a missing person in Union. The person in question was a short time later located at her home.

Deputy Murray responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Washington involving a single vehicle striking two small deer. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

May 1

Deputies Murray, Elwell and Sgt. Jacob Boyington responded to a report of an erratic vehicle in Warren. The vehicle was located by Maine State Trooper Scott Quintero in Owls Head and the operator was arrested for operating under the influence.

Deputies Murray and Sgt. Boyington responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Hope involving a single vehicle whose operator left the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll. Randy Matson, 20, of Lincolnville was arrested on a charge of OUI.

Deputy Johnson responded to assist the Maine State Police at the scene of an assault in South Thomaston. The suspect left the scene prior to arrival of law enforcement. Maine State Police will handle this case and any further investigations.

In total this week, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received 215 calls for service. Those calls not listed above involved things such as all-terrain vehicle problems, alarms, 911 hang-ups, and nuisance, erratic vehicle and suspicious complaints.
