Barbara H. Smith, 75, died May 4, 2010, at her home.

She was born Barbara Hulda Fabian in Kӧnigslutter, Kreis Helmstedt, Germany, on Jan. 13, 1935.

She married Neal Smith on Nov. 16, 1961. Barbara moved to America on June 18, 1962, after Neal was discharged from the Army. She became a U.S. citizen five years later.

Barbara raised three children and was a great wife and mother. She later worked for Sears & Roebuck and Headstart, owned a sewing business, and started with J.C. Penny, when they first moved to Rockland.

In later years Barbara opened her own shop in Owls Head called Our Oak Patch.  Running the shop for over 15 years she made everything by hand, created beautiful crafts, and sold ice cream and homemade jams. Barbara sold to people all over the world.

Barbara loved being a member of Grace Bible Fellowship on Sherer Lane in Rockland.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Neal Smith; two sons, Manfred Ralf Smith and Peter Lothar Smith, a daughter, Kim Lee, as well as their spouses; and eight grandchildren.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held Monday, May 10 at 1 p.m. at Grace Bible Fellowship, 30 Sherer Lane in Rockland.
