On May 3, 2010, Alice “Kinsy” Symonds, 84, ended her short battle with cancer.

Kinsy was born Alice May Webber on Aug. 9, 1925, in Anasquam, Mass. Kinsy graduated from Gloucester High School in 1944. During World War II, Kinsy was a volunteer with the local motor pool units and knitted numerous sweaters for the troops. In 1966, Kinsy moved to Maine and with her husband, David, operated a poultry farm in Rockland. In 1970, the family moved to Jefferson and operated a poultry farm there until their retirement.

Kinsy became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1968. She was a very active member in the Order until this year. She served as worthy matron of her chapter four times, including a year in the East with her husband, David, and another year with her son Steven.

Kinsy was an avid gardener and knitter. She also was an active volunteer in her community

Kinsy is survived by her husband of 63 years, David; her daughter, Diane and her husband, Dominique Gagne, of Poland; her son, Steven and his wife, Beth, of Belgrade; her grandchildren, Bill Feener of Belmont, Chris Feener of Clearwater, Fla., Daniel and his wife, Jessica Gagne, of Mechanic Falls, Jody and her husband, David Madore, of Sabattus, and Renee and Chandler Symonds of Belgrade; her great-grandchildren, Landon, Cameron, Mason, Tristan and Bill Jr.

Kinsy was predeceased by her son, Jeffery; and her siblings, Shirley Leal, Ellen Rose, Chuggy Webber, Scott Webber and Charlie Webber.

Per her request, there will be no visiting hours. An Eastern Star Service will be held Friday, May 14 at 1 p.m. at the Jefferson Masonic Hall, 21 Washington Road, Jefferson ME 04348. A graveside service will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, ME 04330 on Thursday, May 13 at 10 a.m.
