Winifred Auraville “Sis” (Littlefield) Stanley, 91, died April 27, 2010, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born in Stockton Springs Oct. 25, 1918, she was a daughter of Manson G. and Rose E. (Larrabee) Littlefield and was a 1935 graduate of Stockton Springs High School. She received her licensed practical nursing degree after attending nursing school at Knox County General Hospital in Rockland and also in Lewiston.

On July 8, 1944, she married Charles A. Stanley. Mrs. Stanley’s nursing career included working at several hospitals in New Hampshire and Maine, including Bath Memorial Hospital.

In the early 1980s she moved to Camden to assist her sister in caring for their aging mother. Winifred and her sister, Mary, enjoyed many trips to England and the western United States, as well as three trips to Hawaii. She also volunteered at the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League.

Mrs. Stanley was a tireless detective and spent many hours researching the state archives and town office records in compiling her family genealogy. She enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, gardening and doting on her cats. She will always be remembered for her quiet patience and love of family.

Mrs. Stanley overcame many obstacles throughout her life, including her own health, the death of her husband when their sons were young, and being a caregiver to her husband and her mother.

She is survived by two sons, Adrian O. Stanley and his wife, Carolyn, of West Haven, Conn., and Stephen E. Stanley and his partner, Raymond Brooks, of Manchester, N.H.; a brother, Ernest Littlefield, and his wife, Jane, of Lincolnville; a sister, Mary Littlefield, of Camden; two grandchildren, Jonathan Stanley and Matthew Stanley, both of West Haven, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Susan Charlene Stanley; her husband, Charles A. Stanley; and a brother, Onel Littlefield.

A graveside service at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden will be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856.
