An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

The following complaints were handled by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office from April 18 through April 24.

April 18

Deputy Robert Potter responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Cushing involving a single vehicle whose operator swerved to avoid a deer and hit a utility pole. Reportable damage was sustained.

Detective Sgt. Reginald Walker began an investigation of an assault between two female inmates at the Knox County Jail. Videotapes were reviewed and showed that an assault took place by both parties. No charges were sought by either.

Deputy Larry Hesseltine responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Vinalhaven involving a single vehicle striking a deer. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

Deputy Matt Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren. This incident involved a vehicle striking a store. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

Detective Sgt. Walker responded to a report of a domestic incident in Thomaston. Larry Winchenbach, 28, of Thomaston was arrested on an outstanding warrant and held on a probation violation. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

April 19

Sgt. Mark Tibbetts began an investigation of a burglary in Warren. This is still an active investigation with one suspect named, who has not yet been located.

Deputy John Palmer began an investigation of a theft in Washington. This is still an active investigation with no suspects or leads.

Detective. Sgt. Walker began an investigation of criminal mischief in Friendship. This is still an active investigation.

Detective Sgt. Walker responded to a report of a domestic incident in Warren. Glenn Wiley, 42, of Warren was arrested for domestic violence assault and transported to the Knox County jail without incident.

April 20

Deputy Elwell conducted a radar detail in Hope. Two vehicles were stopped for speed.

Deputy Elwell began an investigation of a theft in Washington. This is still an active investigation with no suspects or leads.

Deputy Elwell began an investigation of harassment in Washington. It was found that this was an active case being handled by Maine State Police Patrick Hood and all information was passed on to him.

April 21

Sgt. Tibbetts and Chief Ernie McIntosh responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren. This incident involved a single vehicle whose operator had a medical episode, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway and strike the guardrail. She was transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport for treatment and reportable damage was sustained.

Deputy Hesseltine arrested Mike Goyette, 32, of Greene on two outstanding warrants.

Deputies Elwell and Lt. Tim Carroll responded to an agency assist request from Rockland police units at the scene of a disorderly conduct incident involving several subjects. This is a Rockland case.

Deputies Elwell and Steve Grasso arrested Davis Crowell, 19, of Waldoboro on a charge of violating a condition of release.

April 22

Deputy Potter began an investigation of criminal mischief in Friendship. This is still an active investigation.

Deputy Donald Murray began an investigation of threatening in Cushing. This is still an active investigation.

Deputies Murray and Nathaniel Jack responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in Warren. The vehicle was later located and the operator was issued summonses for possession of marijuana and criminal use of a laser pointer.

April 23

Deputies Potter and Detective Dwight Burtis arrested Craig Beal, 50, of Waldoboro on an outstanding warrant. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputies Elwell and Grasso began an investigation of a missing juvenile male in Hope. The male was later located by Camden police and was turned over to his mother.

Deputies Elwell and Grasso responded to a report of a juvenile male threatening to harm himself in Appleton. The male voluntarily went to PBMC for an evaluation.

Deputies Elwell and Grasso responded to a report of trespassing in Union. The male trespasser was issued a written notice.

April 24

Subsequent to a traffic stop, Deputy Palmer arrested William Mooney, 26, of Friendship on a charge of operating after suspension. The subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputy Hesseltine responded to a report of trespassing and harassment on the island of Vinalhaven. The female involved was issued a warning on both.

Deputies James Moore, Potter and Detective Sgt. Walker executed a search warrant on the island of North Haven. Devin Haskell, 24, of North Haven and Geoffrey Barrett, 23, of North Haven were both charged with cultivation of marijuana and sale/use of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies Elwell and Grasso responded to a report of a burglary in Union. This is still an active investigation with charges pending for the suspects involved.

Deputies Murray and Jack responded to a disorderly conduct complaint in Cushing. The male involved was issued a warning to keep the noise down. The male failed to comply, as a second response was required. Subsequent to the second response, Kevin Crute, 28, of Cushing was arrested on a probation violation and transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

In total this week, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received 187 calls for service. Those calls not listed above involved things such as all-terrain vehicle problems, alarms, 911 hang-ups, and nuisance, erratic vehicle and suspicious complaints.
