Parker Tootill, a Rockland District High School graduate and member of the United States military, has a fish tale to tell. And this one is completely true.

Tootill and pro angler James Porriertoo finished first in the fifth annual Warriors on the Water Pro-Am Fishing Derby April 23 on Jordan Lake in Apex, N.C.

One-hundred and 50 boats and 300 anglers took to the water at 7 a.m. and finished at 2 p.m. on that day. A maximum of five fish were allowed to be caught. Tootill’s and Porrier’s catch totaled 21.3 pounds to help them take first.

The Warriors On The Water program was established to say thank you to the military and what they do. Tootill is assigned to the Wounded Warriors Division and was invited to attend the tourney.

Tootill, now stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, has been deployed twice to Iraq, and spent most of 2009 receiving chemotherapy for treating Hodgkin’s Disease.

Tootill, one of the top RDHS baseball pitchers and overall players in recent memory, said he had a good time fishing. “It was a great day and a new therapeutic door” has been opended to him.
