American Legion Flag Raising Ceremony to honor charter member

TENANTS HARBOR — The annual Flag Raising Ceremony at the ballfield in Tenants Harbor by Post 34 of the American Legion will be held Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. Each year the flag is dedicated to a local person, and quite often an American Legion member. This year it will be in honor of Sgt. Malcolm Wiley and Hilda Wiley.

Malcolm is a 64-year Post member and is listed on the charter of Post 34. Malcolm served from 1944-1945 stationed on the Island of Saipan, in the Central Pacific. Malcolm flew 41 missions as a gunner assistant radio operator. Malcolm is one of four remaining charter members listed in the area. Several speakers representing the town will recall local areas in which Malcolm and Hilda were a part, including the American Legion and Auxiliary, town of St. George, church, sports and family.

Shuman Cemetery Association

WALDOBORO — The annual meeting of the Shuman Cemetery Association will be held Tuesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Mill Street in Waldoboro. Refreshments and coffee will be available. Wessaweskeag Historical Society

SOUTH THOMASTON — The Wessaweskeag Historical Society will host a program with violin maker Kip Yattaw on Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m. Yattaw and others will play some of the violins he has made. Grange Month

St. George Grange, 32 Wiley’s Corner Road, will celebrate Grange Month with a potluck supper and community service award presentation on Friday, April 23 at 6 p.m. Come and enjoy an evening of family, friends, lots of smiles and good homemade food. Donations will be accepted. All are welcome.

National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association

ROCKPORT — The April meeting of Mid-Coast Chapter 2169 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will be held at the Offshore Restaurant on Route 1 in Rockport at noon on Tuesday, April 27. All retired and active federal employees, their spouses and friends are welcome to attend. Benefit supper and auction for Elizabeth Biddle

ROCKLAND — A lasagna supper and silent auction to benefit Elizabeth Biddle and her family will be held Sunday, April 25 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland. Elizabeth has breast cancer and will be closing her law practice in June. The silent auction’s many items offer a wide range of value — artwork, jewelry, gift certificates and specialty gift baskets. Dinner is by donation.

Benefit supper and auction for Trott family

WALDOBORO — A benefit supper and auction for the family of Ralph Star Trott Jr., who passed away Feb. 24, 2010, will be held Saturday, April 24 at the Waldoboro VFW Hall. Supper will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with the auction from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $6 per ticket. There will be a raffle for 10 pounds of lobster/clams and a 50/50 raffle. Medomac Valley Grange annual open house

APPLETON — Medomac Valley Grange, 1289 Burkettville Road in Appleton, will have its annual open house Monday, April 26 at 7 p.m. The grange will award 25-, 50- and 75-year membership certificates. The grange also wishes to invite and honor any present and/or past elected or appointed town officials to the meeting. Anyone who has served the town of Appleton in any elected or appointed position is asked to attend. Bring the whole family and join the grange to honor the townspeople. There will be a program by local talent. Light refreshments will be served following the program. Everyone is welcome.
