Earl R. Titus Jr., 75, died after a brief illness at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland on April 19, 2010. He was born in Rockland on March 3, 1935, the son of the late Earl R. Titus Sr. and Jennie Evansky. He attended Rockland schools and was a graduate of Rockland High School, class of 1954.

Earl was always a hard worker whether it was at a young age helping his grandmother deliver milk using a horse and buggy or driving the school bus while still attending school as a student. After graduation he was a truck driver for Rockland Fruit and Produce making trips between Rockland and New York. He was a meat cutter at Sam Smalls Meat Market, worked for a brief time at Marine Colloids, worked as a guard at the Maine State Prison, worked in the meat department at Sampsons Supermarket in Damariscotta, and for 26 years was a school bus driver for SAD 50.

Earl enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was fishing, ice fishing, hunting or cutting game; he enjoyed it all. One of his fondest memories was his one and only moose hunt with Deven, Clyson and David. Having three girls, one of his mottoes was, “If you married into the family, you had to learn to skin and trim.” He was very proud of his garden, taking the time to teach his family about the different types of things he was growing and how to properly take care of them. He was looked at in the community as a mentor and someone that would always be willing to drop everything to lend a hand or a tool for that matter. He taught all of his family the importance of hard work.

Earl recently helped his grandson Deven in the completion of his Eagle Scout project. He loved his family and was always there for them, putting them first. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joan, in 2003.

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Anderson and her husband, Ernest, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Shelia Gould of Thomaston, Dyann Peters and her husband, Clyson, of Thomaston and Amanda Ware and her husband, Richard, of Bath; his son, David Bixby and his wife, Connie, of Jefferson; his grandsons, Heath Anderson and his wife, Cynthia, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Zachary Titus of Rockland and Deven Peters of Thomaston; his granddaughters, Renee Cook and her husband, Robert, of Brunswick and Shale Peters of Thomaston; his great-grandsons, Logan Ware of Bath, Tucker Anderson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Elias Ware of Bath and Xaidon Cook; his great-granddaughters, Caitlyn Ware of Bath, Audrianna Cook of Brunswick and Lilli Anderson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and his son-in-law, Bill Gould.
