The Thursday night Men’s Industrial League of bowlers decided this year that as a group they wanted to give back to the community.

The bowlers agreed to donate to breast cancer research and set about looking for an organization in Knox County that would accept their donation. They couldn’t find such an organization but did get in touch with the Midcoast Pink Ladies, two women who plan to go to Boston July 23 to 25 for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure event.

The Midcoast Pink Ladies — Stacy Giansiracusa and Nicole Look — have set a goal to raise $4,600 to take with them to the event. With the bowlers’ cashiers check they are $701 closer to that goal.

The league holds a 50/50 drawing each time it meets to bowl at Oakland Park in Rockport that averages $26 for the winner. The other half goes to prize money given out at a banquet at the end of the season.

This year bowlers in the league wanted to do something with the money other than spend it on themselves. League President Steve Jarrett said they would like to find a local charity each year to donate their money to.

Jarrett opened a savings account at the beginning of this past season and since then a deposit has been made every week. The total for the 28 weeks of bowling came to $701.
