An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls from April 4 to April 10.

April 4

Deputy David Johnson responded to a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle striking a deer. There was reportable damage.

Deputy Robert Potter responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Spruce Head involving two vehicles. Driver inattention was a factor in this crash as one operator backed from their driveway in front of an oncoming vehicle. There was reportable damage sustained with no personal injuries noted.

Deputies John Palmer and Potter responded to a report of a 911 hang-up in Warren. It was deemed a medical emergency and Warren Rescue was dispatched to the scene.

April 5

Deputy Palmer conducted a radar detail in Warren. No violations were noted.

Deputies Palmer and Lt. Tim Carroll assisted in a lock-down drill at the Hope Elementary School.

Deputy Palmer responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving a single vehicle being struck by a turkey. Non-reportable damage was sustained.

Deputy Palmer responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in St. George involving a single vehicle striking a deer. The vehicle sustained reportable damage.

April 6

Detective Sgt. Reginald Walker began an investigation of criminal mischief on the island of Matinicus. This is still an active investigation.

Deputy Palmer assisted in locating an erratic vehicle in Rockport. The vehicle and operator were located by Rockland police a short time later.

April 7

Detective Dwight Burtis arrested Kara McGinnis, 23, of Portland on an outstanding warrant.

Detective Burtis arrested Willie Dunton, 24, of Carmel on an outstanding warrant.

Deputy Johnson conducted a radar detail in Warren. No violations were noted.

Deputy Johnson conducted a radar detail in Friendship. No violations were noted.

Deputies Johnson, Don Murray and Sgt. Jacob Boyington responded to a report of a motor vehicle burglary in Warren. Byrlynne Ellis, 31, of Warren was arrested.

April 8

Deputy Potter conducted a radar detail in Warren. No violations were noted.

Deputy Murray responded to a report of an erratic vehicle in Thomaston. The vehicle and operator were located in Rockland and the female operator was issued a warning for her erratic operation.

Deputy Elwell responded to a report of an erratic vehicle in Warren. The vehicle was located and the operator was issued a summons for driving to endanger.

Subsequent to a traffic stop, Sgt. Boyington arrested Pomphile Fontaine, 25, of Rockland on an outstanding warrant and for operating after suspension. Fontaine was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

April 9

Deputy Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Union involving a single vehicle striking a deer. There was reportable damage sustained.

Deputy Potter responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving a single vehicle striking a deer. There was reportable damage sustained.

Deputy Potter began an investigation of harassment in Warren. This is still an active investigation.

Deputies Potter and Palmer responded to a report of shots fired in Owls Head. The suspect was located and charged with reckless conduct with a firearm and discharging a firearm near a dwelling.

Deputy Elwell arrested Sharon Matson, 42, of Cushing on an outstanding warrant.

Subsequent to a traffic stop, Deputy Larry Hesseltine arrested Foy Hildings, 41, of Vinalhaven on a charge of operating under the influence. Hildings was transported to the Knox County Jail by Sgt. Walker and the Marine Patrol without incident.

Subsequent to a traffic stop, Sgt. Boyington arrested William Doniel, 31, of Warren on a charge of OUI, possession of scheduled drugs and operating without a license. Doniel was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

April 10

Deputy Potter began an investigation of a theft in Cushing. This is still an active investigation.

Deputy Elwell responded to a 911 hang-up call in Friendship. Brian Gendron, 32, of Friendship was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault and obstructing the report of a crime.

In total this week, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received 182 calls for service. Those calls not listed above involved such things as all-terrain vehicle problems, alarms, 911 hang-ups, and nuisance, erratic vehicle and suspicious complaints.
