George and May Grant of Owls Head were honored at a 60th diamond anniversary celebration given by their family on March 6, 2010. The reception-style event was held at the Rockland American Legion and attended by their family and many close friends. In lieu of gifts, the couple requested that donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children where contributions so far total $1,300.

Mr. and Mrs. Grant were married Feb. 18, 1950, at Stevens Avenue Congregational Church. They lived in Portland and Westbrook but made Owls Head their home since 1976. They both retired in 1988, George from the can-making industry and May from the former New England Telephone Co. after 37 years of service. George and May have enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, boating, competing in rifle and pistol competitions, traveling the United States (twice) and visiting seven countries in Europe as well as Venezuela together.

May said they have enjoyed every minute of their life together and have been thankful for the health and resources to be able to enjoy all that they have done. In recent years, health problems have curtailed some of their activities, but they have been fortunate to face these challenges together with the support of God, their family and devoted friends at their side.
