On Friday, April 9, Rock City’s Velvet Lounge series will welcome Scot Cannon of Belfast. The show will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rock City Books & Coffee, 328 Main St.

Cannon performs his own acoustic versions of jazz and pop standards and also sings from his collection of mildly sarcastic, and sometimes moving, original songs. If youngsters show up, he has songs to lead them on the right path too. Some of his songs were written while on the dangerous and lonely road working as a mime.

Cannon’s singing and guitar playing goes well with any sort of coffee or food (especially organic), and he has been known to give away small boxes of cereal. As per usual at Rock City events, there is no cover charge but tipping the musician is encouraged.
