Chester E. Meservey, 73, died March 29, 2010, at Togus. He was born Jan. 18, 1937, in Jefferson, a son of John and Eva Hopkins Meservey. Chet grew up and attended local schools in Jefferson. He graduated from Erskine Academy. 

He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958 and later joined the Coast Guard Reserve in 1961. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1997 as a senior chief yeoman. He worked for the Secretary of State of Maine in the Motor Vehicle Division as a branch chief in the Commercial Vehicle Division until he retired in 1998.

He was a member of the Whitefield Lions Club, past master of Riverside Lodge in Jefferson, Valley of Rockland Scottish Rites, past district deputy of the Seventh Masonic District, York Rites, Commandry, Kora Temple Shrine and past worthy patron of Lakeview Chapter OES.

He enjoyed volunteering at Togus and helping others.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by a brother, Charles Meservey and his wife, Rita, of Pembroke, N.H.; his sister, Beverly Heyer of Waldoboro; his nieces, Diane Veroneau of Elmira, N.Y., and Lori Meservey of Pembroke, N.H.; his nephews, Charles Meservey Jr. of Allenstown, N.H., and Craig Meservey of Bedford, N.H.; and his cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate Chester’s life will be held Monday, April 5 at 1 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. in Waldoboro. Pastor Michael Panosian will officiate. Burial will be in the Shepard Cemetery in Jefferson.
