Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers announced that its annual support group for grieving parents will begin Wednesday, April 7 in Camden. The group will meet every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. from April 7 through June 2. Trained hospice volunteers will facilitate each session.

“For those who have lost a child, the world has shattered and stopped,” said group facilitator Jody Curtis in a news release. “The loss of a child does not fit our usual understanding of the natural order of life. It is often the most profound loss that an individual can endure. In fact, this kind of unique loss changes people forever.”

According to one parent, the difficult aspect about grieving the loss of a child is that it does not end; one does not “get over it.” Time alone cannot heal the wounds of this loss. It is the work that parents do within that time that makes all the difference.

Pre-registration is required. For more information and to pre-register for the support group, call Hilary Carr at Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers at 593-9355.
