A new casual dining experience is coming to the Route 1 location that has served as a Denny’s, the Chef’s Table and the Sports Zone.

The restaurant, called the Club House Grille, will open the week after Easter at 1075 Commercial Street in Rockport, according to Director of Operations Kevin LaBree. The business is owned by Joe Cloutier.

The restaurant will have between 40 and 50 employees and will offer a lunch and dinner menu.

Specialties will include St. Louis-style barbecue ribs and smoked rib-eye steak. The menu will also include a variety of Maine seafood staples, and foods such as smoked meatloaf, steaks, sandwiches, salads, pulled pork and buffalo chicken.

Chef Alex Grant has owned both fine dining and casual dining restaurants. He’s a graduate of Johnson & Wales University and has served as an instructor in the culinary arts.

LaBree said the restaurant will have a relaxed family atmosphere. There will be three large TVs that may be tuned into a combination of sports and news on any given night. He expects the TVs will be popular when the Red Sox and Patriots are playing.

The restaurant will also offer a children’s menu.

The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Until recently, the name, the Club House Grille, referred to the restaurant at the Rockland Golf Club run by Kathleen Weaver. Weaver has left the golf course and given the name to the new restaurant opening on Route 1. LaBree said Weaver is a consultant in the business.

Meanwhile the golf course restaurant is being taken over by Steve Watts and will be called the 3 Dogs Café Clubhouse.
