At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1 in the Friends Community Room, Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., will present Greg Marley, author of “Mushrooms for Health; Medicinal Secrets of Northeastern Fungi.” Special accommodations for persons with disabilities can be made with 48 hours notice by calling 594-0310.

Marley of Rockland brings his knowledge and passion about mushrooms to a presentation on Maine’s medicinal mushrooms. America is awakening to the health benefits of medicinal mushrooms. In many other regions of the world, medicinal mushrooms are used as part of a daily regimen to maintain optimal health and protect against opportunistic infections.  They also are called upon more intensively to address some forms of illness, including cancers. In the United States, several medicinal mushrooms are being tested in clinical trials for approval as immune boosters for use treating cancers.

Marley will focus on the most researched medicinal mushrooms and how to build health-promoting mushrooms into the diet as functional food. His book will be available for purchase and signing at the talk.

The free talk is one in a continuing Thursday series of literary, film and cultural offerings sponsored by the library and Friends of the Rockland Public Library.
