Roland A. Achorn, 71, of Vero Beach, Fla., died March 4, 2010, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce.

Mr. Achorn was born May 21, 1938, in Rockland, and moved to Vero Beach 23 years ago from his place of birth. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a yeoman and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Mr. Achorn had been a chef at Indian River Estates in Vero Beach for 15 years and was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and Kings Baptist Church in Vero Beach.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rose Achorn of Vero Beach; his son, Roland A. Achorn III of Vero Beach; his daughter, Coral Mae Van Valkenburg of Vero Beach; his son, Roger Achorn of Rockland; his sister, Kathleen Rellias of Vero Beach; his brothers, George Achorn of Chepachet, R.I., Robert Achorn of Pensacola, Fla., Randel Achorn of Ft. Mills, S.C., and David Achorn of Rockland; his sister, Peggy King of Sebastian, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service was held March 12 at Kings Baptist Church in Vero Beach with military honors by VFW Post 3918. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, 1101 North Lake Destiny Road, Suite 415, Maitland, FL 32784.
