Spectrum Generations is sponsoring a free, four-day leader training for the Living Well for Better Health Chronic Disease Self Management workshop series. Training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 6, 7, 13 and 14 at the Island Institute in Rockland.

The Living Well for Better Health program is a series of six, 2.5-hour classes held once a week for six weeks. People with different chronic health problems attend together. Program participants demonstrate significant improvements in symptom management, communication, exercise, general health, fatigue, disability, and social/role activities limitations, according to a news release.

The workshop is led by pairs of leaders who have chronic health conditions themselves, or take care of someone with a chronic condition. The leaders follow a structured workshop outline that builds the confidence of participants to manage their own health condition.

Spectrum Generations provides ongoing support and class materials to trained leaders. Characteristics necessary to become a leader include being comfortable facilitating and speaking in front of groups. Once training is completed, leaders then co-facilitate one or more workshops within six months.
