The Friends of the Thomaston Public Library  is presenting a series of films in Room 208 of the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1.

The Friday night movies for March have as a theme The Irish Spirit. The final film of the series will be “The Quiet Man” March 26 at 6:30 p.m.

John Wayne hangs up his spurs to star as a bachelor Irish-American former boxer in this well-loved classic from 1952. Back in his native Ireland, his thoughts turn to domestic tranquility after courting a local lass (Maureen O’Hara), but her brother (Victor McLaglen) does not want to lose his sister (who lives with him) to anyone and may need to have some common sense knocked into him, literally, before the deal is done. The film won two Academy Awards, including Best Director for John Ford.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the Hallway Books bookshop will be open in the hallway of the first floor. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

The Academy building is handicapped accessible via the elevator off the parking lot. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
