Robert James Lewis, 65, of Warren died peacefully the afternoon of March 15, 2010, in his home surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born May 20, 1944, in Natick, Mass., a son of the late James Lewis Jr. and Helen (Kopp) Allen.

Bob joined the Navy in 1961 where he served his country honorably until May 1965. Bob married and had three daughters and moved back to the place he loved, Maine, where he had spent the summers of his childhood with his grandparents James and Margaret Lewis of Thomaston. Bob retired from the Maine State Prison as a guard in 1995.

Bob was a lifetime member of the Meridian Masonic Lodge of Natick, Mass. He loved being in the outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time “up to camp” with his good friend Jamie Steeves. Bob also enjoyed spending numerous summers on the water with his good friend Gail Russ. One of Bob’s favorite things to do was watch his granddaughters and their friends play softball.

Bob is survived by three daughters, Margaret “Jimi” Hunt and her husband, Eric, of Waldoboro, Pamela Barker and her husband, Rod, of Wilton and Patricia Anderson of Texas; five granddaughters, Ashley and Danielle Hunt, Jessica DeCastro, Sara Henderson and Caroline Iskerka; three grandsons, Daniel, Sean and Kevin Moore; two sisters, Dorothy Norcross and her husband, Bob, of Newton, Mass., and Judy Carmody and her husband, Michael, of Hopkinton, Mass.; and several special nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held in late spring with friends and family. Arrangements are with the Smeltzer Family Cremation and Funeral Service of Waldoboro. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, 170 Pleasant St., Rockland, ME 04841.
