Appleton Village School has two new flags flying, thanks to student efforts.

Recently, Kristen Keiren wrote to Rep. Andy O’Brien, D-Lincolnville, requesting a new state flag for the school. O’Brien responded that he would get one and on March 5, he presented the flag to the school. He also talked to students about his position in the Legislature and the types of issues that he works on. The second new flag, the United States flag, was presented to sixth-graders by Dick Hathaway, a veteran who attended the Veteran’s Day gathering in November. He was impressed by the invitations created and signed by sixth-graders Casey Gilman, Cameron Gushee and Adam Surek.
