U.S. Coast Guard Station Rockland reported the following activity.

March 5

At 4:56 p.m. Station Rockland heard a vessel call mayday three times. The station tried to hail the vessel back, but there was no response. Several other vessels heard the call also, so a search area was established between Camden and the north tip of Islesboro. At 5:34 p.m. Station Rockland launched its 47-foot motor lifeboat with Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Josh Nazworth as the coxswain. At 5:59 p.m. the boat arrived on the scene and started searching. An HH-60 helicopter was also launched out of Cape Cod to search. At 10:20 p.m. when nothing had been found the search was suspended for the night. The next morning a Falcon Jet out of Cape Cod flew over the area and also found nothing. The case was then suspended pending further information.

March 6

Coast Guard personnel and equipment from Rockland and Cape Cod responded to a mayday call from a man claiming to be a fisherman whose boat was sinking between North Haven and Isle au Haut. After six hours, the search was called off at dusk. Searches did not turn up any verification of the boat or owner’s name. The Coast Guard is continuing to investigate the incident.
