The Waldoboro Lions Club and others involved in the Waldoboro Food Pantry will hold a Thank You Celebration for the Rev. Michael Murphy of Waldoboro on Sunday, March 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Waldoboro United Methodist Church, 93 Friendship St.

Murphy will be honored for his many years of dedication and service to the Waldoboro Food Pantry and the community.

Murphy served as the director of the Waldoboro Food Pantry from the late 1980s until his retirement in October 2009. During those 20-plus years, he shepherded the food pantry through several location changes; raised funds from local businesses, churches, community organizations and individuals; led the food pantry in becoming a member agency of Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn, which supplies food to food pantries across the state; and helped organize food drives. Without Murphy’s dedication and persistence, there would not be a Waldoboro Food Pantry.

Murphy also pastored the West Waldoboro Community Church, which served as the sponsoring agency for the food pantry until the Waldoboro Lions Club assumed that role.

Pastor Tom Rawley of the Waldoboro Word of Life Church will provide music at the Thank You Celebration. There will be a brief program honoring Murphy, and light refreshments will be served. The public is cordially invited to attend.
