The Midcoast has seen its share of nationally awarded and nominated performers of late. The most recent winner is Ryan Bingham, who shared an Oscar with T-Bone Burnett for the theme song of “Crazy Hearts.”

Bingham and his band Dead Horses performed at the Camden Opera House in November as the opening act for the legendary Flatlanders and brought the house down. The opera house plans to have Ryan and his band return sometime this year.

A few weeks ago, Rock City Coffee’s Velvet Lounge series presented Kat Loney of Friendship, who contributed an arrangement of “The Faded Roses of December” to the Grammy Award nominated album “Singing Through The Hard Times — A Tribute to Utah Phillips.” And the Monday Night Blues series at Rockland’s Time Out Pub regularly features Blues Music Award winners and nominees.
