Marie Rahkonen, 43, of Rockland died unexpectedly March 5, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born Oct. 24, 1966, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Her parents were Carolyn and Edward Thompson. Marie is survived by her son, Jeremy Thompson and her daughter, Chelsea Thompson, both of Rockland. She had two grandbabies by Chelsea Thompson and Linwood Sedgwick, Payson and Jordan Sedgwick, who she loved dearly and was so proud to be called a Grammy.

Marie went to Rockland schools. She enjoyed being around family and friends. She loved going to Wink’s and bringing home whatever she could find. At home she would change her house around every other day and work on puzzles on a daily basis. Marie worked at Kaler’s Store and the hot dog stand in her earlier years.

She was a fun person and enjoyed just about everything life would bring her.

Marie got along with everyone and tried to help in any way she could. Marine had many nicknames but the two she liked were “Tard” and “Itches.”

Marie is loved and going to be missed very much. Marie had a sister, Marsha Turner, and a brother, Glen and Tina Stanley. She had three nieces, Savannah Turner, Sabrina Turner and Nancilynn Stanley. She had one nephew, Robert Stanley and all their kids. She had an Aunt Anna that she loved dearly and many uncles and cousins.

Chelsea Thompson wrote: Mom, Jeremy and I love you very much and are so proud to call you Mom. We’re going to miss everything about you. You will never leave our hearts. We hope you’re with Grammy again and both of you are at rest. We love you, Mom. Love, Chelsea and Jeremy.

There will be a benefit supper and raffle at Rockland District Middle School on Friday, March 12 from 5 to 8 p.m.

A service will be held Saturday, March 20 at 2 p.m. at the Rockland Congregational Church, 180 Limerock St. Chelsea and Jeremy Thompson wish to thank the community for its understanding and assistance during this difficult time.
