The annual Waldoboro Day celebration will take place Saturday, June 19.

The agenda for Waldoboro Day centers on a parade at 10 a.m. through a downtown area filled with booths for food, local products and information about local organizations. The morning’s other scheduled events begin at 8:30 a.m. with a 5K race open to both the in-shape and masochistic. By 10 a.m., games for children take over the downtown area. Sprints, a clam-hod relay, a ring toss and other contests highlight the informal, town-fair atmosphere.

Throughout the day, food courts will offer a variety of enticing fare, from a chicken barbecue to burgers and fried clams. The Maine Clammers Association plans to once again offer steamers as part of a fundraising effort for the local clamming industry. Local establishments such as the Narrows Tavern will also offer food and sustenance. In the afternoon, nearby ball fields will be the site of the Little League Championship game, as well as a home-run derby open to all. After dinner, the activity gets a little more up-tempo, with live music in the street, and an impressive fireworks display bursting over the town.

This year’s event will commemorate the 250th anniversary of Lincoln Country, celebrated on this day in several towns throughout the region.

There is no admission charge for Waldoboro Day, and the event relies solely on the contributions of organizations and individuals.

The Waldoboro Day Committee recently honored the Waldoboro Dunkin’ Donuts and its parent, Jack’s Family Donuts, for outstanding contributions to Waldoboro Day in 2009.

Floats, antique and classic cars, historical displays, bicycles, bands, horses and whatever else one can dream up are needed for the Waldoboro Day parade.

Organizers also welcome the donation of time as a volunteer or to help operate a children’s game, set-up displays in the morning, or disassemble displays in the afternoon. To volunteer, contact Ed Fisher at 832-0633 or egfisher@roadrunner.com. A meeting will be held Monday, March 15 at 5 p.m. at the Waldoboro Town Office for all those interested in participating.
