Christopher Edward Benner, 30, originally of Pemaquid, died unexpectedly on March 3, 2010, at his home in Bath.

Born on April 28, 1979, in Damariscotta, he was the son of Edward A. “Buzz” and Terri J. Benner. Chris graduated from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle in 1998. During his years at Lincoln he excelled in track and field, coming in second place in the Class B State Championship in long jump his sophomore year, and first place his junior and senior years. He broke the Lincoln Academy long jump record, which had been held for 35 years. He had a great love for all types of music and poetry and enjoyed writing.

Chris was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Mathias Benner.

He is survived by his parents of Pemaquid; his sister, Stephanie Vincentsen and her husband, Todd, of New Harbor; his brother, Matthew Benner and his wife, Leigh, of Jefferson; his brother, Joseph Benner and his wife, Kerrie, of Bristol; his brother, Robert Benner and partner Michelle of Pemaquid Harbor; and his brother, Thomas Benner of Pemaquid.

Chris was a loving and affectionate uncle to Josh, Jimmy, Heather, Tally, Amber, Andrea, Mason, Elizabeth and Gabrielle. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Mille Reid of Edgecomb; his paternal grandmother, Alice Barstow and her husband, Henry, of Bristol; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A private graveside service was held the morning of March 8 at the Bristol Mills Cemetery, and a memorial service was held that same day at 2 p.m. at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St. in Damariscotta.
