The Midcoast regionals of the 2010 Maine Drama Festival concluded shortly before midnight Saturday in the Performing Arts Center of Rockland District High School. When all the lines had been delivered, all the sets raised and struck and all the judges’ rankings tallied, Rockland District High School and Mount Desert Island High School were selected to move on to their respective state finals.

MDI won for Class A, the division for schools with 550 and more students; and Rockland won in Class B, the division for schools with fewer than 550 students. Alternates, which go to the finals should the winning schools be unable to, are Camden Hills Regional High School for Class A and Georges Stevens Academy for Class B.

MDI’s entry, directed by Casey Rush, was “Sganarella, or The Imaginary Cuckold” by Molière. Rockland’s entry, directed by Alison Machaiek, was “Wiley and the Hairy Man” by Jack Stokes. The winning schools will compete at the state finals Friday and Saturday, March 19 and 20: Class A at Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport; and Class B at Yarmouth High School.

Judges were Dominic Garvey, Karl Rogers and Megan Towle. In addition to the rankings, they named certain actors to the All Festival Cast and handed out Judge’s Commendations. Complete results may be found online at fivetowns.net/subsites/StromAud/MDC/index.htm.
