This week we want to extend special recognition to Dave Landry and his great crew at Superior Restoration Services in Camden for their great service in donating time to reseal the floors of our dog kennels. To Dave, Dave Fifield, Don Martz, Scott Tait and Aaron Tremblay: tons of thanks and waves of paws applause. We simply could not continue to function as a vital community service without the kind of support that this signifies. Thank you to everyone who has donated time, money, goods or services to the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League. Without you our mission is nowhere.

What a year! We took in 32 dogs and 265 cats and kittens. Twenty-eight dogs were adopted, and 204 cats and kittens. We provided a temporary shelter for 55 stray dogs, and we spayed or neutered 210 animals. This last statistic is one of the most important for us. No cat or dog leaves the shelter without having been altered. This is every animal shelter’s way of dealing with an overpopulation of animals: Make sure they don’t produce more. We sometimes get visitors who wonder if this is a kind thing to do to animals. It means there are a few less homeless animals in our neighborhoods, and that’s the kindest and best thing for everyone, two- and four-legged alike.

As you know, we need volunteers to walk our canine corps. Daffodils are beginning to push up out of the ground, so take advantage of some of the fine days to get out and go for a dog walk. If you can’t manage that, spend some time with our fabulous felines. Thank you!

The Blue Sky Cantina is once again donating 10 percent of all Tuesday lunch and dinner receipts to the shelter. Please show your support for us by taking a good appetite there. Muchas gracias!

Our wish list: paper towels, paper plates, Purina Kitten Chow, dry and canned dog food, AA batteries for a digital camera, large kitchen garbage bags, cat litter, laundry detergent, bleach, ODO-Ban cleaner, Windex and especially plastic bags and towels and sheets. We are still building up the stock of cat bedding and toys that was depleted by the ringworm event.

We have some fine animals looking for a home:

Molly, a 4-year-old beagle/blue tick hound, is playful, loving and sweet. She likes walks and other animals and loves to give kisses. She would make a great addition to any family with a lot of attention to spare

Will is a 6-month-old Alaskan Eskimo, and what a sweet little guy. He may be a little shy at first, but when he warms up, watch out, for he’ll be in your lap. He will be ready for a home after he goes to the vet this week.

Isis, 6 years old, is just a great cat. Like a lot of cats, she will want attention when she wants it. And when she wants it, she may just want to lie on your lap and enjoy a good scratch under the chin.

Bonnie is 2 years old, and we can’t believe she is still here. She is very affectionate and would be a great cat in any home.

As always, thanks to all of you who have made the shelter a part of your life. For those of you who have yet to feel the love, we are located in Rockport at 146 Camden St., just across from Subway. We are open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Monday. Please visit us in person and at crarl.org. We look forward to seeing you either place!
