A former South Thomaston selectman has taken out nomination papers to return to that board.

John Spear took out papers this month to fill the vacancy created by the Feb. 16 resignation of Dorothy Meriwether. The term would run through March 2012.

The deadline for candidates to file for Meriwether’s unexpired term is March 16.

Voting will be done from the floor of the town meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. at the Gilford Butler School.

Another selectman seat will also be up for a vote that night. Incumbent Jeffrey Northgraves is the only candidate who filed papers for a three-year seat.

Spear has served several terms on the South Thomaston Board of Selectmen, dating back to 1996. He was the longtime business manager for Maine School Administrative District 50 and is now a consultant for Regional School Unit 13 on school construction projects.
