Randall Irving Gross, 56, of Waldoboro, passed away Monday evening, March 1, 2010, at his home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Randall was born Jan. 18, 1954, in Damariscotta, a son of the late Percy and Alice Ellen (Hatch) Gross. Randall lived in Waldoboro his entire life and graduated from Medomak Valley High School in 1972. He was formerly employed at the canning factory, Crowe Rope and Hannaford’s. He was recently employed at Yellowfront Grocery in Damariscotta.

He was a member and held various offices in many local organizations, including Odd Fellows, Menagha Grange and the Waldoborough Historical Society. Randall’s passion was working on genealogy, not only for himself, but assisting many others. He most recently published a book on the local cemeteries. Randall will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity to others.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Carroll C. Dawson, Roger P. Gross and Carlton H. Gross; and a sister, Maxine B. Gross.

Randall is survived by four brothers, Alton W. Simmons Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Bremen, Kenneth Simmons of Coventry, Conn., Harold E. Dawson and his wife, Rebecca, of Bremen and Lawrence M. Gross of Waldoboro; three sisters, Rosemary Ashner of Waldoboro, Shirley A. Kelley of Rockland and Juanita M. Gross of Waldoboro.

Services will be private at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are with the Smeltzer Family Cremation and Funeral Service in Waldoboro.
