Priscilla H. Colby, 86, died March 2, 2010, at her home after a long illness.

Born in Colebrook, N.H., on Oct. 15, 1923, she was the daughter of Myron and Florence Young Holden. Living in Colebrook until the age of 16, she moved to Lowell, Mass., where she worked during World War II in a parachute factory. She later moved to Mendon, Mass., where, while working as a waitress, she met her future husband, John F. Colby.

They were married Sept. 18, 1943, in Whitinsville, Mass. The couple made their home in Whitinsville, where they raised their family until moving to Owls Head in 1984.

For more than 50 years, with five other couples, the Colbys met every other month in a group called the Supper Club. That group started in Whitinsville at the close of World War II, and continued until recent years, meeting in homes from Maine to Florida.

Since moving to Maine, Priscilla has been active with the Salvation Army, Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity. She was a member of the Rockland Congregational Church.

A devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and wife, she enjoyed cooking, family gatherings and gardening.

Besides her husband of 66 years, she is survived by one daughter, Florence Colby Mathieson and her husband, John, of Rockland; one son, John S. Colby and his wife, Susan, of Worcester, Mass.; one sister, Janice Bergeron of Colebrook, N.H.; one brother, Wilson Holden and his wife, Rhoda, of Florida; four grandchildren and their spouses, Steven and Teresa Anderson, Gina and George Hendricks, all of Northbridge, Mass., Ryan and Melissa Colby of Providence, R.I., and Reagen Colby Brown and her husband, Colin, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, Katelyn, Hannah, Colby and Riley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. The Rev. Seth Jones will officiate. Spring interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Whitinsville, Mass.
