Eagles of the Month

ROCKLAND — The Rockland District Middle School Eagles of the Month are Nicolas Tinker, grade six, Zachary Peaco, grade seven, and Evan Rosa, grade eight.

Skov is candidate in Presidential Scholars Program

WALDOBORO — Brynna Skov, a senior at Medomak Valley High School, has been named one of 3,000 candidates in the 2010 Presidential Scholars Program. The candidates were selected from nearly 3.2 million students expected to graduate from high school this year.

Seniors are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character, and involvement in community and school activities. The candidates were selected for their exceptional performance on either the SAT or ACT. Further consideration is based on students’ essays, self-assessments, descriptions of activities, school recommendations and school transcripts.

Brynna is the daughter of Valdemar and Cathrina Skov of Waldoboro.

Kindergarten registration

UNION — Any parent living in Union who has a child who will be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15, 2010, is requested to contact Union Elementary School to sign up for kindergarten registration. Registration at Union Elementary School will be on April 15. Call the office at 785-4330 to register a child. The school needs to begin setting up appointment times for April 15, so parents are encouraged to call as soon as possible.

Thomas College

WATERVILLE — Nicholas Casey of Rockland has been accepted at Thomas College in Waterville, starting in September 2010. Casey is the son of Roger and Teresa Casey. He plans to major in computer science.

BOSTON — Andrew S. Chatfield of Rockport received a master of arts degree in history from Boston University in January 2010.

Tenants Harbor resident presents research on New London’s industrial past

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Freya Levett, a senior at Connecticut College and a scholar in the college’s Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy, will discuss her senior research project, “Educating Others about New London’s Industrial Past,” during the Program in Community Action and Public Policy Class of 2010 Conference on March 6. Levett, a 2006 graduate of Georges Valley High School, is the daughter of Ross and Susan Levett of Tenants Harbor.
