Rockland is home to one of the nation’s top McDonald’s restaurant managers. Rick Hafford recently received the Ray Kroc Award, an annual award that recognizes the top performing McDonald’s restaurant managers in the country.

Hafford received his award at a banquet in Massachusetts on Feb.1. The honor includes a cash award, a Ray Kroc award trophy and pin, and a trip to Chicago for an awards gala on March 16 hosted by McDonald’s USA President Jan Fields.

This year, 141 managers across the United States were chosen to receive the prestigious award that recognizes superior performance and achievement. Named after McDonald’s corporate founder Ray Kroc, the award was established 11 years ago to honor hardworking restaurant managers.

“I am very honored to win such a prestigious award for a company I love working for,” said Hafford in a news release. “I also have a great team behind me that shares the same vision to running a great restaurant.”

Ron Lydick and his wife, Cyndi Lydick, of Falmouth have owned the Rockland McDonald’s located at 60 Camden St. since November 2007. It is one of seven McDonald’s restaurants in Maine owned and operated by the Lydicks.

“It takes a special kind of manager to be able to achieve success in all areas of running our business,” said Ron Lydick. “Rick Hafford is that special manager. He has taken an opportunity and turned it into a huge success story. We are proud of Rick for the work that he has done and the great strides he has made in the Rockland restaurant. He has built a team that would make anyone proud to be part of.”

Hafford joined the Rockland McDonald’s in 2007 and has served as restaurant manager since March 2008. In September 2009, he received McDonald’s Quarter Million Dollar Award for sales. Hafford began his career with McDonald’s in 1976 and has held all positions up to and including area supervisor.

Hafford oversees a staff of more than 55 employees, including 15 managers. Hafford resides in Winthrop with his wife, Sarah, and their children, Tyler, 20, Ryan, 10, and Josh, 4.
