Spelling bee
The Friends of the Rockland Public Library Adult Spelling Bee held Feb. 9
was a huge success, raising more than $1,100 for the Friends of the Rockland
Public Library, which works to support the collections, programs, equipment,
and activities of the library through fundraising and volunteer assistance.

Twelve five-person teams competed, mostly supporters from the area
(including a team from the Coast Guard station), and the eventual winning
team, Eleemosynary Team, was composed of people both local and from as far away as
Brooksville. At one point organizers became concerned that these excellent
spellers would blow through the list of prepared words.

The Friends would like to thank all those involved, including those who
participated in the event and those who helped organize it, but especially
City Manager Rosemary Kulow for presenting the words, Fire Chief Charlie
Jordan and Rockland District High School Principal Tom Forti for judging,
and Rockland Library Director Amy Levine for keeping time. The Friends also
want to thank RDHS for allowing the use of the auditorium, which provided a
comfortable space for everyone. A fun time was had by all. Many thanks to
the 12 teams of enthusiastic, stellar spellers!
