PechaKucha Night Rockland is casting an open call for entries for its event Friday, March 26 at Lincoln Street Center for Arts and Education, 24 Lincoln St. Deadline for consideration for the next PechaKucha Night is Friday, Feb. 26.

PechaKucha Night is an internationally recognized event based on a unique presentation style in which artists, designers and other creative individuals share 20 images at 20 seconds each. In the past year, five such events have drawn record crowds in the Midcoast, most recently in November at the Camden Opera House, held in conjunction with Midcoast Magnet’s Juice Conference, where more than 350 people filled the house.

The response continues to be inspiring, as a diverse group of presenters from the local area share images and stories of their work, their process and what inspires them to live and work as creative individuals among us. The hosting venues have added their own diversity to the experience; events have been held at Eric Hopkins Gallery in Rockland, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport, the Farnsworth Art Museum’s Wyeth Center in Rockland, Waterfall Arts Belfast and the Camden Opera House.

For the March 26th event in Rockland, the selection committee is looking for a broad range of work from diverse creative professionals such as designers, inventors, visual artists, architects, chefs, farmers, boat builders, etc. While the committee can only accept eight presenters for the March event, keep in mind that there will be other PechaKucha Night events in the Midcoast area in 2010 and once you submit, you could still be chosen for future dates.

Those interested in becoming presenters March 26 should e-mail rockland@pechakuchamaine.org no later than Friday, Feb. 26 with the following information: name and contact information; the medium one works in; a brief description of one’s work along with the story to be told (250 word maximum); and a link to one’s Web site or five low-resolution images of the work to be presented.

Doors will open for the next PechaKucha Night Rockland at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:15 p.m. If the turnout is anything like last year’s, it should make for quite an evening.
