In celebration of 25 years of serving children in kindergarten though eighth grade in the Midcoast, Ashwood Waldorf School has created an outreach scholarship program designed to introduce Waldorf education to new families and strengthen the growth of the student body.

The Gift of Waldorf Education scholarships provide a limited number of 75 percent tuition discounts for first-time students. The program is not need based; it is intended to provide an incentive to families interested in Waldorf to take this step in their children’s education.

Interested families will complete the normal application process, which provides opportunities to become acquainted with the school through classroom observations and meetings with key faculty members. This program will be available to students entering first through sixth grades. The deadline to apply is June 1 for the 2010-2011 school year.

Ashwood Waldorf School is a learning community dedicated to providing a Waldorf education to children from early childhood through eighth grade. Waldorf education is based on a developmental approach to learning that addresses the needs of the growing child and maturing adolescent. The curriculum is carefully designed to strengthen a child’s intellectual abilities and observational skills, and promote independent thinking and self-confidence. Waldorf education is fueled with a deep respect for the spiritual nature of the human being. A respect for and understanding of the environment is nurtured through the science curriculum, active outdoor education and daily recreation on Ashwood’s wooded campus.

Located on Park Street in Rockport, Ashwood Waldorf School is an independent and accredited private school with more than 100 students. Parent/Child classes for children 18 months to 3 years old, with a caregiver, are also offered during the school year at the Rosewood Early Childhood Center. Ashwood enrolls children from Damariscotta to Belfast and beyond. For more information call 236-8021 or visit ashwoodwaldorf.org.
