Arabelle M. Knight, 88, widow of George A. Knight Sr., died Feb. 8, 2010, at the Knox Center in Rockland.

Born Nov. 19, 1921, in Freedom, she was a daughter of Earl and Gladys (Howes) Millay. She graduated from Walker High School in Liberty in 1940 and then went to work at the Davis Funeral Home in Thomaston.

She married George Knight Sr. in Waldoboro May 14, 1942.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and collecting owls.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockland and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. As a longtime member of Penobscot View Grange, she was master for five years, chaplain for two years and secretary for 25 years. She also enjoyed membership in Knox Pomona Grange, serving as chaplain for two years, as well as the state and national granges. In later years, she was a member of the Rockland Senior Citizens Club, where she was treasurer for 15 years and secretary for one.

She was predeceased by a brother, Arnold Millay; and a sister, Marguerite Benner.

Mrs. Knight is survived by a daughter, Gloria Benner, and her husband, Horace, of Rockland; a son, George Knight Jr., and his wife, Charlotte, of Warren; a sister, Bertha Jackson, of Bangor; three brothers, George Millay and his wife, Margaret, of Liberty, Clyde Millay and his wife, Maxine, of Washington and Wilbur Millay and his wife, Ardith, of Hope; five grandsons, Pastor Scott Benner of Old Town, Mark Benner and his wife, Kim, of South Thomaston, Jeffrey Benner and his wife, Michelle, of Rockland, Greg Knight and his wife, Shantelle, of Warren and Lucas Knight and his wife, Angie, of Thomaston; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Benner of Rockland, Troy Knight and Sadie Knight, both of Warren, and Brooke, Brianna and Erin of Rockland; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta.
