Winter festival

Yes, it is time again for one of the big events at Hope Corner or in that area. It will be held Sunday, Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day. The fishing derby on Hobbs Pond starts at 7 a.m. with the judging to be held at 4 p.m. At 9:30 a.m. the cross-country ski races will be held at Hope Orchards. At 10 a.m. there will be dog sledding. Also at 10 a.m. there will be ice skating and cross-country skiing and snowshoes will be provided by Maine Sport. There will be many more events to take part in. Food items will be sold in back of the Hope General Store. This event will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. If you would like more information, call the Hope General Store at 763-2816.

Library open

During the Hope Winter Festival on Feb. 14 the Hope Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so people can warm their toes, enjoy mulled cider, borrow books and take advantage of the ongoing book sale. The library is located in the Hope Town Hall.

Snowmobile pizza party

Yes, that’s right. The Hatchet Mt. Sno-Riders snowmobile club will hold its regular meeting Saturday, Feb 13 at the Hope Town Hall. Supper will be at 6 p.m. and it will be a pizza supper. Please call Peggy at 763-3347 so she can order what kind you want. Each person will pay $5.


Sympathy is extended to Peggy and Alex Ludwig and Dottie and Fred Holbrook and family on the loss of Peggy and Dottie’s Aunt Ernestine Knowlton of Camden. She was also the sister of Margaret Kennedy of Lincolnville.

Incoming kindergartners

Please notify the Hope School office at 785-4081 if you have or know of a child living in Hope who will be 5 on or before Oct. 15. It’s budget time and they need to know how many kindergartners to plan for.

Community birthday calendars

For almost three decades the community birthday calendar has brought together families in Hope. It is a fundraiser for both the Hope Library and Hope Elementary School. The calendars cost $8 each or $7 for early birds who send in their checks by April 15. Sign up and renewal forms are available in the library in the town office building. Please send a form or note with your check, made out to Hope School Volunteers, to the library at 443 Camden Road, Hope, ME 04847. For more information, please call Judith at 763-3576.

Class lunch

The class of 1958 will hold its monthly lunch on Thursday, Feb. 18 at noon at the Village Restaurant in Camden. Special guests will be teacher Hazel Peabody and her husband, Neil.

Box tops

The next deadline for box top submission is Feb. 28. Please keep collecting and sending them to the school office. The school is halfway to the goal of $1,600 for a Smart Board for the school. Every box top counts.

Dinner and silent auction

Mark your calendars for the annual eighth-grade dinner and silent auction, which will be held Friday, March 12. If you would like to attend this exciting event at the Hope Elementary School, please call the school for tickets. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12 years old and $20 for a family. Children under 5 get in.

I’m moving

The time has finally arrived. This coming weekend plus Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 15 and 16, I will be moving down the road to the house where son Chris and family live now. Chris, Linda and Marian plus their two cats will be moving to the farmhouse. My address from now on will be 716 Barnestown Road with the rest being the same. My phone number, 763-3751, will still be the same. My fax number, 763-3754, will be the same and will be in operation by Feb. 18. If you have any questions be sure and give me a call. Sometime people will have to stop and see me in March and see my new electric chair.
