The 35th annual Maine Fishermen’s Forum will be held Thursday-Saturday, March 4-6, at the Samoset Resort in Rockport.

This year’s seminars will include several different subjects, including aquaculture site leasing, ocean energy and wind power, an experimental summer shrimp-fishery round table, a public hearing for Amendment 5 to the Monkfish Management Plan, changes in scallop management, and market strategies. The second annual Decompression Chamber, a comprehensive Clam Day schedule and a “Lobster Fisheries from Around the World” seminar will highlight the Thursday, March 4, offerings.

The board of directors is seeking additional scholarship applications for the annual scholarship drawing. Applicants must be in their second year of secondary school and have an immediate family member involved in Maine’s seafood industry to qualify. For an application, visit mainefishermensforum.org. To date, the forum has awarded more than $170,000 in scholarships.

The forum’s annual Scholarship Benefit Auction will be held Friday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samoset Resort. All proceeds go to scholarships, which will be drawn Saturday, March 6. Offerings range from stuffed fish pillows to Hamilton Marine gift certificates, as well as handmade scarves and blankets, and many other items. The Maine Fishermen’s Forum is a nonprofit organization, and welcomes donations for scholarships. For more information call Chilloa Young, forum coordinator, at 442-7700.
