Our pet pick of the week is Wagner. Wagner is a happy-go-lucky 4-year-old male Chow Lab mix. This big, handsome fellow will make a great family dog. He gets along with cats and most dogs, preferring the ladies over the more dominant males. Wagner is a big, strong boy and could use some work on his leash manners but is manageable with a firm and patient hand. If you like to play in the snow then Wagner is the dog for you. He loves to burrow deep and plow through the drifts. The only thing more enjoyable than watching this big goofy dog play in the snow is to jump in and join him. If you’re interested in Wagner come in and meet him before the next snow falls. You’ll be glad you did.

We need your vote. Bangor Savings Foundation is giving a total of $100,000 to 68 local nonprofit organizations. We are hoping that our supporters will vote for the Humane Society of Knox County. You can pick up an official ballot at Bangor Savings Bank or we’ve got them at the shelter too. If you’d rather do it online, just go to our Web site at hskcme.org and follow the link to vote for us. You will need to write us in under Midcoast region. Winning $5,000 will help us provide shelter, food, medical care, compassion and hope for the more than 1,000 homeless and abandoned animals we will see this year. The deadline is March 2 so cast your vote. Tell your friends, family and co-workers to vote for HSKC — your community shelter that provides animal care services to 22 towns in Knox and Waldo counties. Thank you for your support.

Don’t forget to join us Saturday, Feb. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Knox County Courthouse for Knox County Feed Our Friends Event. We will be there along with the Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry to accept donations of food, supplies and financial assistance for our two- and four-legged friends. Don Carrigan will also be there along with Togus the Cat. Raffle tickets are available to win great prizes, with proceeds to go to the two organizations. Hope to see you there. For more information visit hskcme.org and follow the link.

Save the date: On Saturday, March 6 we will host a Tropical Get Away Fundraiser at the Lincoln Street Center from 5 to 9 p.m. with steel drum band Steelin’ Thunder providing the music. Tickets are only $10 for plenty of food, fun and entertainment. Stay tuned for more information.
